Moving Sounds is a show that airs every fourth Wednesday to a worldwide audience online on Soho Radio and on Mixcloud to listen again after. It was born out of the long running playlist of the same name created by James that explores spaces between classical, electronic, ambient, soul, jazz, drone, film soundtrack, folk, field recordings & other transporting sounds from the past but mostly from now. Ever since he can remember James has been obsessed with sharing the music he discovers. in tandem with the making of his own. From making personalised mixtapes for friends and family on cassette tapes as a teenager, long-time publicist of the Ninja Tune label, to this, the natural evolution of his love for spreading the word about other peoples music.

For a full archive of shows and to subscribe to James on Mixcloud click here, follow the regularly evolving playlist on streaming platforms here and check the Moving Sounds recommended releases on Bandcamp here.

These days, the show is usually a long form interview with one artist or someone working in music. It’s a relaxed chat, by a cosy fire in a pub (well actually normally on Zoom or at Soho Radio) asking the interviewee about the moving tracks that have signposted their life, tracks that bring tears to their eyes and why. Guests have included Hania Rani, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Roger Robinson, Julianna Barwick, Sarah Davachi, 130701 Records, Bat For Lashes, Abul Mogard, Sonic Pieces, Belle Chen, Anna Phoebe, Büşra Kayıkçı, Dustin O'Halloran, Coldcut, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Penelope Trappes.

Whilst showcasing established names in the world of music, an equally big part of Moving Sounds is to support new, diverse talent who also deserve every chance at being heard. So if you are a brand new artist, however under the radar, then please feel free to submit tracks for the playlist. The best way to do this is through the Moving Sounds collaborative playlist, joining the Discord channel, contacting him on Instagram or emailng the label Ahead Of Our Time.
